What we need to see happen

I was recently reading Superman: Earth One. And it got me to thinking. I didn’t actually care for the story. Long story short, I thought it was contrived, and really was just treading the Origin Water that I’ve read in Superman: Birthright, Superman: For All Seasons, Superman: Man of Steel, and even in the television series Smallville. But if you want me to go even more in depth, just go read my review over at Mickey’s Tavern from a couple of weeks ago.

Weekly Television Reviews- HEROES: episode one- Genesis

E-mail Print PDF
(4 - votes)

Welcome to what I hope is going to be the first in a long running series of examinations of superheroes in episodic television shows. For now, I am going to be watching every episode of the first season of HEROES. After each episode, I will review/commentate on what I watched, and communicate on how I felt about it. I’d say that 80 percent of what I’m going to be talking about, here, is only pertinent to the episode in which I am reviewing, and so if you’ve seen that episode, then it’s not a spoiler. But the other 20 percent is when I take knowledge that I have from watching the rest of the season or even beyond, and I apply it in some way to something that happened in the episode I’m talking about. Usually, when I’m spoiling, I’ll put up big SPOILER esque letters, and it’ll be about how I don’t see how something fits with information we are given later on in the season or series.

A different kind of Avengers

E-mail Print PDF
(11 - votes)

So I was thinking about the Avengers, recently, like many folks have been, since they had a small movie come out this summer. All kidding aside, I was not as excited about the Avengers film as everyone else who I have spoken to about the movie. But after seeing it, about a month after it premiered, I had to admit that it was a whole lot of fun, and that it was even a good movie, which I was most skeptical about, years before it even came out.

But I’m not really here to talk about the Avengers right now. I want to talk about what would happen if a movie like the Avengers was to happen. What do I mean? I doubt I have to explain this to anyone, but I will. The Avengers was the story of four superheroes who had their own movies then coming together in a team-up movie to learn to work together and save the world. Then you threw in some characters like Nick Fury, Black Widow and Hawkeye, who had no movies of their own, but were important nonetheless. So what got me to thinking was…what if we had a movie that followed that basic formula, but used NON-COMIC BOOK superheroes. This is to say, they cannot have originated in a comic book. Some of these guys may have showed up in comics after they first originated in cinema, but that doesn’t count.

The future of the Batman film franchise

E-mail Print PDF
(20 - votes)

Ever since I saw the Dark Knight Rises, the conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy (which, if I had to actually tell you what that is, you’ve no doubt accidentally teleported here and have not been on the internet or near a human being for 8 years), I’ve been seeing lots of speculation/theories about where the Batman movies are heading. Since part of this speculation stems from the plot of the Dark Knight Rises, I’m afraid I’m going to have to tell you now that there are lots of SPOILERS for the Dark Knight Rises film. So if you haven’t seen it, and you hate spoilers, then stop reading now. After the cut, you’ll be spoiled. You’ve been warned.
